How the Psychology Program Finder Works

You don't need to know which school you want yet. Tell the psychology program finder what you want from the degree and it does the comparing for you, across psychology, counseling, social work and ABA programs.

  1. You Answer Six Questions

Your degree level, online or campus, where you live, the work you picture, what matters most and anything else worth knowing.

  2. We Read 1,447 Programs

The program finder keeps the programs at your level and in your format, then reads each one's own description against your answers.

  3. You Get Five Matches

Each match shows a match percentage, the tuition you'd pay per credit, its accreditation and a link to its place in our rankings.

Which Psychology Degree Fits Your Career Goal?

Psychologist

You'll need a doctorate, a PhD or a PsyD, to be licensed as a psychologist, and most states want it from an APA-accredited program. 306 programs in our data lead there. Start with our clinical psychology doctoral programs by state or the best online PsyD programs.

Counselor or Therapist

A master's is the degree here. Counselors license as an LPC or LMHC, usually after a 60-credit counseling master's, and clinical social workers license as an LCSW after an MSW. 692 programs point toward one of those licenses. Compare counseling programs by state and MSW programs by state.

School Psychologist

Most school psychologists hold a specialist degree (EdS) with a year-long internship, the level the National Association of School Psychologists sets for practice. 385 programs prepare you to work in schools. See our school psychology programs by state.

Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

The BCBA credential needs a master's, behavior-analytic coursework and supervised fieldwork before the exam. Plenty of ABA master's and certificates are online. 216 programs in our data prepare you for it. Compare ABA programs by state.
